Ransom (aka Maniac)(1977)(dvd)

Synopsis: A solid crime drama, in which a psychopathic killer starts to bump off a small town's populace before demanding a million-dollar ransom to stop. The town's richest man isn't having any of it, though, and hires a mercenary to kill the killer. Oddball but interesting casting sees the likes of Stuart Whitman and Deborah Raffin acting opposite Oliver Reed.

The film has its dull spots, and the murderer's real motivation remains obscure. But it's still watchable (if you don't mind graphic violence), despite being a jigsaw with several pieces missing.
