Synopsis: In its day, this
was a highly controversial and, to some, tasteless thriller. One would expect
nothing less from Leo Marks, writer of Peeping Tom. But this time round, the
story of a seemingly nice young man, who is in fact a homicidal maniac, went
too far by implying a link between Down's syndrome and psychosis.
Film-makers the Boulting Brothers had to add a disclaimer to the front of the film. The wholesome young stars of The Family Way, Hayley Mills and Hywel Bennett, are ludicrously miscast, and suspense is not comedy director Roy Boulting's forte, but the bizarre story is still gripping, and the murders, though a long time coming, provide a suitably ghastly climax.
