Baby
Doll (1956)
Synopsis: The film that
scandalised America has been tamed by the passage of some four decades. In all
honesty, it is hard to keep a smile off one's face at the thought of millions
of respectable citizens being pinned back in their seats by the emotional
G-force emanating from the screen and their own sense of delicious guilt at
witnessing such wicked shenanigans.
Yet Tennessee Williams's screenplay
is not without its highlights, thanks to the skilled direction of his favourite
film-maker, Elia Kazan, notably the scene on a swing in which Eli Wallach, in
his film debut, seeks revenge on arsonist Karl Malden by seducing his virgin
bride.
Cast: Karl Malden, Carroll Baker, Eli
Wallach Runtime: 88 min
