Yellowstone Kelly (1959)(dvd)
Synopsis: Big Clint Walker
became a major TV star as a result of playing the title role in the Warner Bros
cowboy series Cheyenne, and Warners tried to capitalise on his success in three
well-made western features, of which this was the second. Interestingly,
scriptwriter Burt Kennedy would recycle great sections of this screenplay in
his directing debut The Canadians, but here veteran Warners director Gordon
Douglas is in charge as buckskin-clad Walker attempts to quell an
injun uprising, supported by other TV names of the time such as
Edward Byrnes (77 Sunset Strip) and The Lawman's John Russell.
The
Technicolor exteriors are superb, but the monosyllabic Walker never cut it as a
movie star, becoming a useful supporting player and occasional lead in
programme fillers.
Cast: Clint Walker, Edd Byrnes, John Russell
Runtime: 91 min
