The Wind Cannot Read

Synopsis: Dirk Bogarde's fifth film in just over a year, as the Rank Organisation relentlessly paraded its biggest box-office attraction before an adoring public. But the strain shows in his tired portrayal of an RAF officer who falls for Japanese teacher Yoko Tani. Ralph Thomas, who had directed Bogarde's three previous features, certainly knew how to make the most of his looks and charm, and wrings every drop of sentiment out of this four-hankie weepie, but neither plot nor performances really convince.
