Synopsis: Chubby tenor Mario
Lanza's second starring role the first was in the previous year's That
Midnight Kiss again teams him with glamorous co-star Kathryn Grayson.
This was the film that helped him become a household name, belting out the
momentous Be My Love at every possible opportunity, as he portrays (oh yeah?) a
singing fisherman discovered by suave impresario David Niven.
Grayson
may be top-billed, but 19-year-old Rita Moreno later to win an Oscar in
West Side Story steals the honours in a super dance number, and nearly
walks off with this trifle.
Lanza's next film was the smash hit
The Great Caruso, and the
seeds of both his stardom and his self-destruction were duly
sown.
