The Swap (1969)(dvd)

Synopsis: In 1980, Cannon Films tried to cash in on Robert De Niro's burgeoning fame by re-releasing an obscure 1969 independent movie, in which he stars as a film editor spending the weekend on Long Island. Although it was a total flop, Cannon still thought it had commercial value and reworked the De Niro footage into a newly shot film. In the re-edited version, flashbacks show Sam (De Niro) getting killed while editing a porno movie.

Ten years later his ex-con brother Vito (Anthony Charnota) searches for his murderer. No matter which incarnation is seen, it's all a dull disaster made worse in the re-edit by having Sybil Danning play the same part as Jennifer Warren in the old footage.

Andy Warhol superstar Viva also survives from the 1969 fiasco, while Lisa Blount and James Brown are the ones involved in political cover-ups, drugs and blackmail in the 1980s video version. Confused? You still will be after watching the movie!

Cast: Robert De Niro
Runtime: 90 min
