The Satan Bug (1965)(DVD)

Synopsis: Compared to the more straightforward heroics of other Alistair MacLean hits such as The Guns of Navarone and Where Eagles Dare, this is an altogether more subtle affair, with George Maharis as an ex-government agent searching for the madman who is threatening to unleash a deadly virus that could wipe out humanity.

There's a solid supporting cast in the shape of Richard Basehart, Anne Francis, Ed Asner and Dana Andrews, and director John Sturges never lets the suspense slip for a minute. Sturges is helped in this by composer Jerry Goldsmith who adds yet another memorable score to his distinguished list of credits that include Planet of the Apes, Chinatown and The Omen.
