The
Prince and the Pauper (1977)
Synopsis: Taking advantage of
the success of Richard Lester's two Musketeers films, Oliver Reed, Charlton
Heston and Raquel Welch donned the costumes once again for another historical
romp, this one based on Mark Twain's classic story. No expense was spared on
production values and the distinguished cast (which also includes Rex Harrison
and George C Scott) has a fine time hamming things up.
Yet, despite the
extravagance, it remains a lifeless affair that isn't helped by an unconvincing
lead performance from Mark Lester as the prince who changes places with a
beggar.
