The Man From Dakota [1940] [DVD]

In this American Civil War tale a couple of Yankee soldiers escape from imprisonment in the South, become spies and hook up with a glamorous Russian refugee while they're on the run. On paper, this unlikely, not to mention fanciful, idea sounds like a Bob Hope spoof, but it's actually an action-packed period adventure.

The men are Wallace Beery and John Howard; the lady is Mexican beauty Dolores Del Rio, who was to vanish from the screen until her reappearance with Orson Welles in 1942's Journey into Fear.

Western starring Wallace Beery and John Howard. Two Union soldiers escape from a Confederate prison and begin the dangerous journey back to friendly territory. On the way they meet a Russian émigré who has murdered a Confederate officer.
