Synopsis: This rather glum
insight into the policeman's lot was the final film made at Ealing Studios.
Jack Hawkins wears a suitably hangdog expression as the detective faced with a
series of robberies and a rocky marriage to neglected Dorothy Alison.
Far from adding to the realism of the tale, the domestic crisis is a
crashing bore and it's with evident relief that director Charles Frend abandons
Bromley to head back to the side streets of Covent Garden and, finally, to the
Festival Hall to provide an exciting and surprising conclusion to the
case.
Cast: Jack Hawkins, John Stratton Runtime: 96
