The Little Drummer Girl (1984)

Synopsis: Diane Keaton is still in eye-flutteringly winsome mode seven years after Woody Allen's Annie Hall, so she never quite convinces here as Charlie, the politically-correct actress who's recruited by Israeli Intelligence to infiltrate a Palestinian terrorist group.

John le Carré's bestseller, from which this is adapted, has many different character shades, but director George Roy Hill opts for broader strokes of near caricature that suit Klaus Kinski's strident performance as the Israeli agent in charge of Charlie's enrolment.

There are some dramatic moments, but too much talk slows the pace from urgency to languor.

Cast: Diane Keaton, Yorgo Voyagis, Klaus Kinski
Runtime: 130 min
