The Last of Mrs Cheyney (1937) (dvd)

Synopsis: This Frederick Lonsdale theatrical chestnut has always attracted great female stars to its showy, creaky title role. The 1929 Norma Shearer version is rarely shown, but movie fans have the consolation of the 1951 remake called The Law and the Lady with a Cecil Beaton-dressed Greer Garson, and this rather slow, dated but nevertheless glossy and engaging Joan Crawford version from MGM's golden age.

There's more to it than just Crawford showing off, though, with William Powell and Robert Montgomery equally as impressive as they battle to out-suave each other in supporting roles.
