Synopsis: Adapted from Lynne
Reid Banks's bestseller, this was an angry young film in its day, which comes
to life under the sensitive direction of Bryan Forbes. Set in shabby bedsit
land, it features Leslie Caron in an Oscar-nominated role as the unmarried,
pregnant girl with a decision to make. Wonderful performances — by Tom Bell, Brock Peters, Bernard Lee and music-hall veteran Cicely Courtneidge — make the tenement in which the L-shaped abode is situated a place of vitality, concern and eventual affirmation.
