Synopsis: What real-life athletes such as technical adviser Gordon Pirie made of this sports drama about the build-up to the marathon at the Rome Olympics is anybody's guess. It's hard to know where to look, really. At the so-obvious cardboard cut-out crowds? At the mind-boggling casting of Michael Crawford as an ace marathon runner? At Ryan O'Neal as an all-round American good guy, competing despite a heart condition? Only Stanley Baker and Jeremy Kemp as trainers emerge with any credit in director Michael Winner's sprawling mess of a movie.
