Synopsis: This is a rather curious account of the hardships and tragedies faced by a mid-19th-century Scottish immigrant family in the American backwoods. Based on the heart-rending experiences of scriptwriters Dale and Katherine Eunson's ancestors, it stars the unlikely pairing of Britain's Glynis Johns and the hunky, pre-High Chaparral Cameron Mitchell.

The result is little more than a plodding seasonal tear-jerker, but despite the weak characterisation and mediocre direction (by Allen Reisner), it's good to see the famously husky-voiced Johns as a doughty pioneer wife.
