Susan Slept Here [1954] [DVD]Dick Powell (actor) Debbie Reynolds (actor)
Format: all-region dvd (worldwide) Runtime: 97 min Quality: Digital
This super-sophisticated post The Moon Is Blue farce is as funny and risqué now as it was back in 1954. Debbie Reynolds is simply terrific in one of her rare naughty-but-nice roles (as opposed to her nice-and-nicer roles) as a sexy teenage delinquent foisted on screenwriter Dick Powell.
The Hollywood scene is well observed by the comic genius of director Frank Tashlin (The Girl Can't Help It), and the humour is peppered with in-jokes; indeed, the narrator is an Oscar statuette! The Technicolor is particularly rich, and the Oscar-nominated theme song went to number one in the charts, remember Hold My Hand by Don Cornell? A film for 1950s freaks. |
