Somewhere I'll Find You (1942)
Synopsis: The relationship of
two brothers (Clark Gable, Robert Sterling), both war correspondents, is upset
by their involvement with a female journalist (Lana Turner), who is sent to
report in Indochina. There the three meet up again.
She becomes a
nurse, they all go to Bataan, and one of them doesn't return. It's a standard
Second World War romance with a convenient resolution, efficiently directed by
Wesley Ruggles, which allows Turner to go through the melodramatic mill.
A huge box-office success in its day, the film is remembered because
Gable's wife, Carole Lombard, was killed three days into shooting, becoming an
early Hollywood war casualty. A grief-stricken Gable insisted on finishing the
picture, but gives an understandably subdued and lacklustre
performance.
Cast: Clark Gable, Lana Turner. Runtime:
108 min
