Synopsis: Mario Lanza's last two movies were sorry affairs compared to what had gone before: after all, he was the pride of MGM, with the hugely popular The Great Caruso and the follow-up Because You're Mine under his belt.

But an insatiable appetite coupled with appalling manners made him both hard to cast and to like, and, although his robust voice was undeniably attractive, his screen persona became, alas, awkward and contrived. Here, under the expert directorial hand of Roy Rowland, his performance is a little more mellow, but when those lungs open, nothing seems able to contain him.

Another Mario classic, Seven Hills of Rome on dvd is a wonderful movie and the music will stir you.
