Synopsis: Bette Davis is stunned when husband Barry Sullivan announces he loves Frances Dee and wants a divorce. At first she turns vindictive, until she realises her own contribution to the breakdown of her marriage. Curtis Bernhardt's movie eschews the more obvious clichés of the genre (no tug-of-war over children, for example) and charts the course of the central relationship in flashback.

The first of Davis's films as a freelance following her rupture with Warner Bros after 18 years under contract, it was made before the hugely successful All About Eve, but released after. A good vehicle for the star's talents.

Cast: Bette Davis
Runtime: 90 min
