PJ (1968)(dvd)
aka New Face in Hell

Synopsis: Wealthy tycoon William Orbison (Raymond Burr) suspects that his wife is trying to murder his mistress, so he hires shabby private eye PJ Detweiler (George Peppard) to be her bodyguard. Making his first Hollywood movie, British director John Guillermin pays passing nods to all the old Bogart movies.

However, this is essentially an essay in late 1960s graphic violence and James Bond-style glamour. (At one point, the location suddenly switches to the Bahamas.) It's dated badly, but Peppard looks convincingly haggard while Gayle Hunnicutt is radiantly beautiful as Burr's mistress.
