Mr
Drake's Duck (1951)(dvd)
Synopsis: A bright, breezy
comedy from British director Val Guest (adapted from the book by Ian Messiter)
about a duck that lays uranium eggs, filmed in an innocent postwar era when the
long-term effects of radiation poisoning were still unknown.
Mrs Guest,
the blonde and perky Yolande Donlan, plays Mrs Drake, who's married to suave
Douglas Fairbanks Jr and who, together with her husband, breeds ducks on their
Sussex farm, one of which turns out to be a source of possible riches. Very
enjoyable, and deservedly very popular in its day, this is still a charming and
overlooked British comedy.
We have amended this synopsis at the request
of the author's daughter.
Cast: Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Yolanda
Donlan. Runtime: 85 min
