Mine
Own Executioner (1947)
Synopsis: A nerve-shattered
former prisoner of war, who has tried to kill the wife he love, is treated by a
lay psychiatrist with problems of his own. This is a brave and intelligent
piece of film-making, which allowed Nigel Balchin to adapt his novel with
almost no box-office concessions.
The psychiatrist becomes Canadian to
suit American actor Burgess Meredith, but he plays the part brilliantly. Under
the direction of Anthony Kimmins, Kieron Moore is also excellent as the
disturbed war veteran. The climax on the ledge of a high building will make
your feet tingle.
