Kismet (1955)
Synopsis: Maligned in its
day, this Arabian Nights farrago has much to recommend it now, notably muscular
baritone Howard Keel having the time of his life. He brings enormous energy to
his role as Haaj the beggar, whose daughter has fallen for a caliph, filling
the screen with his worthy and underrated performance.
The rest of the
cast also works hard, particularly the raunchy Dolores Gray, and Ann Blyth and
Vic Damone make a perfectly acceptable pair of lovebirds and get all the best
songs, especially the hit Stranger in Paradise.
Currently the only way
to get Kismet on dvd is to have it transferred from a vhs
source.
