Interlude (1968)(dvd)
Synopsis: A charming remake
of that hoary old romance about a wide-eyed innocent abroad who falls for a
sophisticated married musician, previously filmed (as When Tomorrow Comes) with
Irene Dunne and Charles Boyer and lugubriously with June Allyson and Rossano
Brazzi.
Here the casting is nearly perfect, with dashing intellectual
Oskar Werner, one of the stars of Jules et Jim, as the baton-wielder, and
Barbara Ferris as the young reporter who becomes entranced by him.
The
film benefits from a fine supporting cast, especially Virginia Maskell as the
conductor's wife, and watch out, too, for Donald Sutherland and John Cleese
very early in their careers. Director Kevin Billington, to his credit, doesn't
get in the way.
Cast: Oskar Werner, Barbara
Ferris Runtime: 113 min
