Died a Thousand Times (1955)(dvd)
Synopsis: In this cheesy
remake of High Sierra, Jack Palance steps into Humphrey Bogart's shoes as
“Mad Dog” Earl, the hard-boiled gangster who wants to finish a
lifetime of crime with a spectacular heist. It was a by-the-numbers story when
Raoul Walsh tackled it back in 1941 and it proves even more tired in director
Stuart Heisler's barely competent caper.
Palance is certainly no Bogie,
but the top-notch supporting cast that includes moll Shelley Winters, Lee
Marvin and Lon Chaney Jr is a movie buff's delight and well worth
catching.
