Gunfight In Abilene (1967) (dvd)

Synopsis: Teen idol Bobby Darin heads a cast that includes Michael Sarrazin and a pre-Airplane! Leslie Nielsen in this very routine Universal western, from the period when the studio was making low-budget supporting features utilising its back lot and existing sets. Darin gives a capable performance as the disillusioned American Civil War veteran who's reluctantly recruited as the sheriff of Abilene by cattle baron Nielsen, but co-star Emily Banks is an unconvincing heroine and William Hale's direction is leaden.

Plot Summary: A disillusioned Civil War veteran returns home tormented by having caused the death of his friend. He renounces violence, but nevertheless takes on the sheriff's job as penance. As violence eerupts, he is forced to take up arms once again. Western, starring Bobby Darin, Leslie Nielsen, Donnelly Rhodes and Emily Banks.
