Cry Danger (1951)(dvd)

Synopsis: A former child actor and film editor, Robert Parrish made an impressive directorial debut with this tough thriller starring one-time crooner Dick Powell as an ex-convict on a quest to free a pal still in jail. The film is set in the ghetto area of Los Angeles, to allow Powell to hole up in a seedy trailer camp to stake out said friend's wife (played by Rhonda Fleming).

Hot on atmosphere (provided by legendary cameraman and Robert Aldrich favourite Joseph Biroc) and tight on suspense, this was an auspicious debut from a still very interesting and underrated director.
