Synopsis: Rutger Hauer made this obscure German thriller shortly before he began the collaboration with Paul Verhoeven that would transform his career. Still only a fledgeling star, he relies on moody macho rather than character depth to see him through a bruising encounter that, for all its nastiness, has few surprises to offer.

Hooking up with innocent Vera Tschechowa after swindling his employers, Hauer has to draw on all his ingenuity when they are taken hostage. Günter Vaessen's sloppy script depends entirely on platitudes, but Ralf Gregan's direction, though primitive, does pack a visceral punch.
