City That Never Sleeps (1953) (dvd)

Synopsis: In this detective drama, a cop (Gig Young) plans to quit the force and his wife for a nightclub dancer (Mala Powers). To finance his desertion, he accepts an offer from a crooked lawyer (Edward Arnold) to escort a gangster (William Talman) to safety.

But plans go awry when the latter turns violent… This moderately entertaining crime entry, competently performed and directed (by John H Auer), gives an authentic picture of night-time police work in Chicago. For all that, it strains to fill its 90-minute running time.
