Beau
Brummell (1954)
Synopsis: Robert Morley had
the distinction of playing the late-18th century's two unhappiest monarchs:
Louis XVI of France (in Marie Antoinette, for which he earned an Oscar
nomination) and George III in this over-inflated historical pageant that will
soon have fans of The Madness of King George spluttering with indignation.
Nevertheless, Stewart Granger cuts a dashing figure as the Regency fop
whose life, loves and dress sense set tongues wagging. Faced with the
exuberance of Morley, Granger and Peter Ustinov (deliciously affected as the
Prince of Wales), Elizabeth Taylor seems a little daunted, and who could blame
her?
