Synopsis: Susan Hayward stars
as former prostitute Ada, the fiery wife of southern politician Dean Martin, in
an MGM rags-to-riches tale. Wilfrid Hyde White is Martin's scheming political
adviser, who threatens to expose Hayward's colourful past if she continues to
appear at her husband's side. Martin Balsam is also effective as Martin's press
agent.
This is a mesmerising melodrama from the studio's post-Ben-Hur
period when chances were taken with unusual casts and subjects, and is directed
with a knowing hand by skilled craftsman Daniel Mann.
